Back to School ...

Hi SP Bloggers ... hope you are enjoying these final days of summer.

Imagine many of you spent last week getting your kids ready for the first day of the new school year. It's always an exciting time with the promise of new beginnings and adventures that lie ahead. And there are always great school papers that come out every year around this time. With college kids, this blogger may not have any more "first day" pictures, but that doesn't mean I can't scrap, as shown here with Back to School (No More) made with the Moxie Braniac paper line.

Fun looking back at a past First Day of School.
Used Moxie Braniac line with Tim Holtz Distress stained tissue tape.
Fussy cut and popped backpack & books at bottom of picture.

We all love roaming the Playground to find the latest additions to the shelves. One new product you'll want to play with is Milk Paint by American Crafts. It's powder paint that you mix a little with water (the more water, the more translucent; use over gesso for a more opaque result) and then use it on porous stuff (chipboard, wood pieces, and more). Mix it smooth or leave it with some little lumps for texture.  There's no right or wrong -- just grab a pack and try something new. Have fun and we hope to see you soon at the Playground!

Here are just some of the Milk Paints (they come in pairs).
There are other colors available too!

It's Been Awhile...

Hi SP Bloggers ... I can't believe it's been a month between posts. No real earth shattering reason for the absence other than life -- the day job, home reno stuff (which has a way of snowballing doesn't it!?!), and my "baby" had his wisdom teeth pulled. But this weekend it was great to see my scrap-happy friends again at the Playground.

And I'm reminded of the wonderful people I've met through the Playground. As we navigate life we've shared highs and lows, lots of laughs and even some tears. And we share a love for playing with paper, inks, paints and more to record -- and even create -- memories. If you've never done a weekend crop at the Playground, give it a try. You'll find other croppers are happy to share tips, tricks, ideas, and stories. And be sure to come by this weekend to check out some of the latest arrivals at the store!  (P.S. Just a reminder that the Playground's closed on Mondays!)

Fun layout from a cropping weekend with friends
using the Imaginisce "Perfect Vacation" line.
Great for your summer vacation memories too!
Authentique does it again.

Love Authentique's Radiant line.
Perfect for so many different projects!
Petaloo is blooming all 'round the Playground!
And love, love, love the coordinating butterflies!

Want to try something new from Imagine Crafts?
It's a great way to add ink, texture AND resist capability
to your projects.  Give it a try.
Just check out all the colors it comes in...

And yep, there's even more!

And check out these goodies -- great for your mixed
media, scrapping and card making projects!
Glitter, Fragments & Embossing Powders!

Dina's in the House!

SP Playgrounders rolled out the welcome mat to this weekend's special guest teacher, Dina Wakley.  Ranger Ink's newest designer is sharing her approach to art journaling -- what she likes to call the Dina gospel!

Those taking classes today are in for a great treat. Now Friday's class participants may have been challenged to transition from the work week to creativity mode. But it didn't take long for them to let it go, relax and stop thinking ...the journal pages they created were all beautifully colorful and unique. So if you're taking a class today, you'll want to follow Dina's rules (there are only a few that'll surely make you smile) and vow to try something new!

If you're taking one of the classes today, you're going to have such fun learning about your color story, how to draw faces (yes, you can!), and how to put the "journaling" in your art journal. Give us a call if you're interested in a class -- we might have just a few spots left.

Even if you aren't in a class, stop by and check out Dina's wonderful paints, stamps, stencils, mediums, and more. Then get to creating in your art journal or even on your cards and scrapbook pages!  Have a creative weekend!

Just some of Dina's creating goodies.
You'll want to also check out her stamps, stencils & masks!

We love having Dina here this
weekend to share her "gospel"!

You Catch the Fever?

Hi SP Bloggers ... Have you caught the World Cup Fever?  It seems you can't help but get caught up in the excitement of the matches. So thought we'd capture a bit of the "fun" (or is it frustration) in watching one of this weekend's Round of 16 games.

A quick layout - using Echo Park Goal paper line - of
World Cup action in our living room and on the TV!

Come in and check out the Echo Park "Mini
Theme" Goal line.  Fun papers!

This weekend was Debbie's last regular weekend at the Playground. She, Rich and their beloved pups will be moving to Utah next year to start a new chapter in their life. She knows our customers well and always looked out to be sure they got the latest and greatest goodies for their stash. But now it's time for her to start getting organized and eventually packed for their journey West. Deb, thanks for everything! You'll be missed, but we look forward to seeing you 'round the Playground from time to time!

Deb, we love that you're following your dreams!

Are You Remembering the Now?

Happy Summer SP Bloggers!  Many of us are busy trying to "catch up" with scrapbooking our family's memories -- birthdays, holidays, school milestones, and more. All are wonderful to capture in our scrapbooks. But during Tim's recent visit, I was reminded how important it is to also capture those everyday moments -- family habits and favorites, simple candid moments of those we love to spend time with, things that make your home your home, etc.

During summer, living is a little easier and more laid back. So why not start this weekend to be your family's stealth photographer. Capture simple everyday moments. Ice cream breaks. Chillin' at the beach. Pool time. Cook outs. Hammock time. Bare feet in the sand. Pile of flip flops. Summer reading. Daydreaming moments. You get the idea.

Leave your comments below to share other "remember the now" moments that you've captured in your scrapbook pages.

What do you do while the burgers are grilling? You dance!

Had fun creating layout of some everyday moments with DH &sons.
Used Bo Bunny's new line - Somewhere in Time - & Tim's gears.

You know what they say ... a picture's worth a thousand words. Enjoy!

What a Weekend!

Hi SP Bloggers ... we had an amazing weekend with our special guest teacher, Tim Holtz.  Although we miss Tim and Mario already, we were thrilled to have the opportunity to share this experience with a number of Playgrounders -- old and new.  Watch for more about the weekend activities shortly.
