Welcome Spring (Said Imaginisce!)

Hi SP Bloggers -- After such a gorgeous weekend, how could we think of anything BUT springtime!  (Although as I'm typing that, the wind is howling and the temp is dropping.) Putting that aside, however, that made me pull out one of the recent "paper lines of the week" -- Welcome Spring by Imaginisce. It's such a happy mix of papers that can be used for so many different types of scrapbook and card projects. We paired it up with some of the new burlap Petaloo flowers and butterflies.

Leave us a comment to let us know what you'll be capturing in your springtime scrapping projects!

Simple Stories in a Snap

Hi SP Bloggers.  Now we've all done it ... spent hours creating a scrapbook layout, paying attention to every detail from matching the card stock color to our pictures, to cutting and inking accurately centered photo mats, to fussy cutting certain page elements, to selecting and adding the perfect embellishments. But for those times when you may need to create some pages in a snap, why not try Simple Stories Sn@pbooking system!

With Simple Stories Sn@pbooking system, you use their papers, journaling cards and your trimmed elements, and slip them into the pocket pages to tell your stories.

In fact, the Scrappin' with Renee and Simple Stories class on Tuesday, April 15th will introduce class participants to the process. Each participant will get a red Sn@p binder, 4x6 and 3x4 journaling cards, stickers, pockets and page protectors to create a complete 6x8 album in class.

Call or stop by to sign up for class (though space was limited). And the next time you're at the Playground, check out our Simple Stories display and give it a go! This could be just what you're looking for to help you create those projects that beautifully capture memories in a snap!

Dina Wakley's Coming to the Playground!

Happy Spring at Last SP Bloggers! It's a gorgeous weekend so get out there, take lots of pictures and find a little "me" time to get creative.

Hey, we're thrilled to share that Ranger's Signature Designer, Dina Wakley, is coming to Scrapper's Playground in July!  Her Art Journal Play series is all about exploring and playing with art journaling techniques. The goal for each class is simple - learn techniques, experiment, play and make finished journal pages. You'll work in journals, but what you learn can be applied to all mixed media projects, including canvases, book making, and on and on. Please stop by or call us at 631.539.9888 to register!

A $25 non-refundable deposit will be required at the time of registration. Classes must be paid in full two weeks prior to the class date. Please note that fees and deposits are non-refundable but transferable. And for those who may be traveling by train, we're just a 5-minute ride from the LIRR Babylon station and will assist you in getting to and from the station.

So let's take a look at the classes Dina will be teaching!

Art Journal Play Series: Conquering Color
Friday, July 18 // 6 to 9 p.m.
Cost: $65

Join Dina as you conquer color! You'll first make color charts with her gorgeous paints. Then you'll practice specific color schemes, playing with split-complementary, triadic, analogous with complement, to name a few. Dina will show you how to take each color scheme and make a vibrant page with it. Along the way she'll give you tips and techniques for managing color and effectively using contrast. She'll teach you to mix ink and acrylics to give interesting layers and color effects.

Please bring:
  • Basic Tool Kit: rag/cloth, pencil, scissors, palette knife, baby wipes, paper towels, old gift card (to use as a scraper)
  • Your art journal (Dina recommends the large Dylusions journal by Ranger)
  • Rubber stamps -- bring your "muses" -- Dina will have some to share too
  • Pens for journaling on your pages
  • Optional: Your own ink sprays and stencils -- Dina will have some to share
Dina Wakley paints, Gesso, Gel Medium and brushes will be supplied for your use.

Art Journal Play Series: Strong & Powerful Women
Saturday, July 19 // 9 a.m. to Noon
Cost: $65

Join Dina to create art journal pages that represent strength and positive thought. She'll use her new rubber stamp sets and stencils to create pages that are both beautiful and meaningful. She'll use her new stamp sets - Scribbly Women and Face in the Crowd -- to create figures for your pages. She'll also talk about composition and create the pages from the bottom layers up. Come and play with her paints, stamps and stencils and have lots of fun!

Please bring:
  • Basic Tool Kit: rag/cloth, pencil, scissors, palette knife, baby wipes, paper towels, old gift card (to use as a scraper)
  • Your art journal (Dina recommends the large Dylusions journal by Ranger)
  • Optional: Your own ink sprays and stencils -- Dina will have some to share
Dina Wakley paints, Gesso, Gel Medium and brushes will be supplied for your use.

Art Journal Play Series: Facing the Facts
Saturday, July 19 // 1 to 4 p.m.
Cost: $65

Dina always says she doesn't know how to draw, yet she has taught herself to draw faces. And you can draw faces too!  She'll teach you how to draw a face with easy tips and tricks. You'll use the "magic pencil" to make your faces look artsy and interesting. And she'll give you each your own pencil in your kit so you'll have one to play with at home. She'll also show you how to paint faces with artistic and fun colors. Even if you can't draw, you can learn to draw faces -- she promises!

Please bring:
  • Basic Tool Kit: rag/cloth, pencil, scissors, palette knife, baby wipes, paper towels, old gift card (to use as a scraper)
  • Your art journal (Dina recommends the large Dylusions journal by Ranger)
Dina Wakley paints, Gesso, Gel Medium and brushes will be supplied for your use.

Art Journal Play Series: Listening & Layering
Saturday, July 19 // 5 to 8 p.m.
Cost: $65

Explore and push your layers. Dina will guide you through layering exercises, where you listen to her prompts and react in your journal. No two pieces will be alike! It's a great artistic study for learning to listen to your artwork, where to put the next layer and when to stop. You'll try to load your pages with as many layers as you can, making sure you remain in control of the layers and that you work them to your advantage.

Please bring:
  • Basic Tool Kit: rag/cloth, pencil, scissors, palette knife, baby wipes, paper towels, old gift card (to use as a scraper)
  • Your art journal (Dina recommends the large Dylusions journal by Ranger)
  • Rubber stamps - bring your "muses." Dina will have some to share too!
  • Pens for journaling on your pages
  • Optional: Your own ink sprays and stencils. Dina will have some to share
Dina Wakley paints, Gesso, Gel Medium and brushes will be supplied for your use.

We hope you'll join the Playground crew and Dina for her classes!  It should be a great time and a special learning experience.  If you get some time, come on into the Playground this weekend and check out what's new to the shelves this week!

Thanks to Joey & Playgrounders...

SP Bloggers are sure a fun bunch and always so interested in trying new things.

This past Saturday, we had the pleasure of welcoming Joey (a.k.a. "Bazzill Joey") back to the Playground to teach a couple of classes.  She showed us a creative way to use a plastic envelope as a cover for a travel journal full of pockets for pictures and memorabilia.  And she guided others through creating a great layout and cards.  Thanks Joey and all who made the day so great!

Watch for details about even more guest teachers coming to the Playground!
