When I saw the new Tim Holtz Distress Water Color Cardstock, I knew I wanted to try a resist technique. After trimming 1/2" inch off of each side, I started to line sentiment stamps up on the paper to create my background image. If you are using clear embossing powder like me, it is essential that your stamps are clean otherwise the white of your paper will not come through underneath the image. Once I was happy with the composition of my stamps, I transferred them to a clear acrylic block. I inked the stamps with Versamark Ink and stamped. Be sure to press firmly if you are using the textured side of the paper. (Note that you can use either side.) After sprinkling clear embossing powder on my image, I zapped it with my heat gun.

Next, I colored with the Distress Markers on a craft sheet and spritzed some water on top of the color. I also spritzed the Water Color Cardstock. With a paint brush, I started adding color to my image. I always love watching how the stamped image resists the ink! You can add as much or as little -- depending on the look you are going for. If you want bolder colors, don't mix any water into the color on your craft sheet. To finish the card, I matted the water color background onto a piece of pattern paper and adhered it to my card. Then, I die cut a butterfly (also from the water color cardstock) stamped the coordinating image with StazOn Ink, and used the same technique as above to add color to its wings. I adhered the butterfly to the card with foam tape for added dimension. I think the bright colors and fun background make this the perfect card for a teen girl.

I was excited to work with the new Tim Holtz Water Color Paper featured in today's card. To begin, I cut a standard A2 card and then cut a piece of the water color paper to measure 2 3/8" 5 1/2". There are many ways you can color this paper.  I chose to color the solid images from Paper Smooches Flap Happy with Tim Holtz Distress Markers and layer them on the paper.  My hope was that when I added water, the colors would blend but I would still be able to see faint images of the butterflies.  You can add as much or as little water as you want until you get the look you are going for.  I zapped the panel with a heat tool, stamped a second layer of butterflies and spritzed some more water for the intensity I wanted.  And yes, you can make out a few images of butterflies in my background!

Next, using more water color paper, I die cut three butterflies.  After stamping the coordinating images with StazOn Ink, I colored each butterfly with two or three of the distress markers. Because I wanted more control of the water, I spritzed a little water onto my craft sheet and, using a paint brush, added it to my images to blend the colors.  Once dried, I added Stickles in the new Pink Taffeta color to the wings.  Again, I used a paint brush for maximum control.  To finish my card, I mounted the water color panel to the purple cardstock which was cut 1/4" wider. After adhering that panel to the card, I added the butterflies using foam adhesive for dimension and stamped my sentiment.  I left the inside blank for a personal note. 

This card was made with my friend, Sherry, in mind. She just celebrated the 4th anniversary of her last chemo!

Today's card uses the Paper Smooches Surf & Turf stamp set. It was inspired by the beloved children's book, Rainbow Fish.  I so loved reading this story to my kids when they were small. Seeing this stamp set conjured up many of those fond memories.  To start, I cut a standard size card. I then cut the Bazzill cardstock 1/4-inch shorter in height and adhered it to the card base. Next I cut the patterned paper from My Mind's Eye Sweetest Thing Lavender pad to measure 5.5" x 3.75".  This measurement included the branding strip. My original intention was to cover the branding strip with a different pattern but I liked how the the bolder stripe looked.  I decided to use the the paper as is and come up with a fix to cover the hole.

I stamped my scene using black StazOn ink.  I would be using water to add Twinkling H2Os to some of the fish so I wanted an ink that would hold up to water.  I did use a mask when stamping the plants. (You may have noticed from the picture that I often stamp on top of an old mouse pad.  I find this helpful in getting a really sharp image.)  Next, I colored in my scene using Tim Holtz Distress markers.  I painted over the images with a damp paint brush for a water color effect.  For the two smaller fish, I added purple Twinkling H2Os to the scales.  I used the Spica Pen to make one scale stand out just like Rainbow Fish!  As for the hole on the branding strip, I covered it with a Candy Dot and added a second to the right side of the sentiment to ground it. (I used Glossy Accents to make sure they stuck.)  As a finishing touch, I ran a line of wet glue along the top of the pattern paper and adhered some multi-colored twine.

Don't forget to give the inside of your cards a little TLC.  Adding a graphic element and a scrap of paper really helps make your sentiment pop.
