Back to School

I used the Simple Stories Orange Notebook for my base. I then cut out the school rocks from the border and title sheet paper.  I cut the Smarty Pants Green Composition to 9x7, cut the Smarty Pants School Days to 10x8 and adhered it to base paper. Layer green composition paper on top and add border strip to bottom. I cut out the bingo cards and layered them on the border strip. I cut out the back to school from the horizontal journaling card elements and attached to layout. I attached the green ribbon across the layout and added the name to the pencil. I then embellished with chipboard and sticker embellishments. All paper edges I inked with Memento Ink.

I cut the Be Thrive paper to 8x8 and matted it with cardstock. I added a 2x8 paper strip of the pattern on the opposite side to the middle. Cut the Be Live paper to 9x9 and mat with cardstock. Mat photo with cardstock and add to layout. Add the journal card, journal and embellish with chipboard stickers and label stickers. Add title with Basic Grey Alphabet. Add clear jewels to center of flowers and add enamel dots to embellish layout.

My Mind's Eye Cut and Paste Paper Line

Hello Bloggers:

If you haven't been to the store in the past couple of days, you really need to stop by and check out the new Cut and Paste Paper by Mind's Eye.  It is absolutely beautiful and can be used for so many different occasions.  I just love the brads and all the different sayings! Today's card features My Mind's Eye The Sweetest Thing Honey theme paper and layered stickers. This is an extremely easy card to make and all your friends will think you spent hours working on it.

 

First, I folded my Card Shoppe card stock to make a card (4.25”x 5.50”, Photo #1). Next I used my Quickutz, Nesting Card Templates cookie cutter nesting dies (the 4.25”x 5.50” rectangle, Photo #2) to cut the background paper. If you are a card maker these dies are a must! Just a side note about this product, there are seventeen rectangles and perfect to use with your A2 and mini cards, it’s the perfect set to add the layered look to any design. If you don’t have a set you should stop by Scrapper’s Playground to pick one up.

 

Okay, now back to the rest of the layout, for the pink scallop circle, I used a Sizzix die called the Sizzix Card, Scallop Circle Insert  (Photo #3). If you don’t have this die just yet you could also use a white decorative doily. You might even have one hanging around in your kitchen cupboard from your last luncheon or tea party. I then used circle die cuts to cut the next two papers and layered them all together in the middle of the card, and gluing down with your choice of adhesive (Photo 3-4). With the My Mind's Eye The Sweetest Thing- Tangerine “Wonderful” Dandy Paper, the ziz-zag circle paper, I did use pop dots to make this layer pop from the design (Photo 6).

 

Lastly, I chose one of the Honey “One of a Kind,” Layered Stickers from My Mind's Eye The Sweetest Thing and placed it in the center of the page (Photo 7). With this design I chose to keep it simple with layering everything in the middle of the card.

 

I was so inspired with this paper and the layered stickers that I wanted to try something else. I decided to make the same basic skeleton again for the card and this time to off center the main design and put one of the Honey “One of a Kind,” Layered Stickers from My Mind's Eye The Sweetest Thing, off centered (Photo 8).  Don’t be afraid to move things off the conventional normal and go off to one side or the other, things don’t always have to line up.

 

As, I looked at my two card designs one may have thought I was done…..but wait I never used the Perfect” Tiny Word Stickers from My Mind's Eye The Sweetest Thing (Photo 9). I thought to balance the words from the layered sticker,  “So Happy to Have You,” with the phrase “I love Everything About You and More,” could be added to the upper left-hand corner (Photo 10).

 

Or you could leave it without that extra phrase, it’s really up to you. That’s why I love creating cards, no two cards are exactly the same and the possibilities are endless! Good luck with your designs, I had lots of fun creating and hope this inspires you too!

My Mind’s Eye – The Sweetest Thing (Tangerine "Hello") stamp set 

Supplies:

After cutting and scoring the Bazzill Card Shoppe cardstock to make an A2 card, I cut the Bazzill Two Scoops textured cardstock to measure 4"x 5.25".  For a clean cut, I recommend using an x acto knife.  To bring out the design in this paper, lightly sand it with a sanding tool.  Next, I cut a piece of white cardstock (4.25" x 2")  for my design block. Since I would be using water with Twinkling H2Os to color in my design, I used black StazOn ink for my flower and sentiment. The border stamp (which I love because it reminds me of washi-tape) was stamped with Tim Holtz Distress Ink.

This was my first time working with Twinkling H2Os and I am hooked. I found this product very easy to work with and the results were incredible! After spritzing the pot of Twinkling H2O with a little water, I also spritzed my brush. I painted my image with the damp brush to precondition the paper before painting on the color. To get a two-toned effect on the larger flower, I went over some of the leaves a second time.  Next, I used a Spica pen to add some turquoise highlights to the leaves. I adhered the ribbon to the white cardstock using Scor-tape and then added foam dimensional adhesive plus more Scor-tape to adhere the piece securely to my card. 

I added a piece of white card stock to the inside of my card for a hand-written note and stamped it with the Washi Stamp for extra detail.

Design Team Cards by Carol - Part 2

My Mind’s Eye – The Sweetest Thing (Bluebell) stamp set and 6x6 paper pad

Supplies:

·       Bazzill Card Shoppe Cardstock

·       My Mind’s Eye Bluebell stamp set, 6x6 paper, and enamel dots

·       Faber Castell Mix and Match Media Sets in yellow and green

·       Versamark and white embossing powder

I stamped the small tri-flower image, and then masked it off to stamp the larger flower.  All were colored with the Faber Castell Art GRIP Aquarelle Water Color Pencils and PITT Pastel Pencil.  Then blended with water.

I used the metallic green Gelato from the Faber Castell set to edge the papers.  Then softened it with my fingers.  This really gives the paper a very nice shine. 

I selectively inked the doily from the stamp set with Versamark, heat embossed it with white, then cut it out.  I embossed the flower set to create the flower embellishment at the end of the banner.    I used the sentiment image from inside the frame of this set – stamped with Versamark, and embossed with black.  The banner was “popped” with pop dots. 

CAS (clean and simple) card

Supplies:

·      Bazzill Card Shoppe Cardstock

·      My Mind’s Eye Bluebell stamp set, and 6x6 paper

·      Faber Castell Mix and Match Media Set in yellow

·      Sentiment set from Inky Antics

·      Viva Pearl Pen in yellow

·      Scoring Tool

I scored lines from the top at ¾ inch and 1 ¼ inch – then from the bottom at 1 ¼ inch and 1 ¾ inch.  I cut and adhered 2 strips of paper just slightly less than ½ inch to fit between the scored lines, and the bottom piece was cut just less than 1 ¼ inch. 

I inked the frame from My Mind’s Eye stamp set with the Metallic yellow PITT Artist Pen and stamped that.  The flowers from the same set were inked with Archival Blank ink.  I used the sentiment from Inky Antics, which fit perfectly inside the frame – don’t you just love when things go together well!! 

I used the Pearl pen to add dots to the center of the flowers.  This is a very cool pen because you can size the dots to whatever you want!  They come in a variety of colors!
